Peter Lawwell Celtic newsPeter Lawwell has ruled out league reconstruction to help Sevco accelerate their way into the top flight.

Reconstruction suddenly re-appeared on the agenda during the summer after SFL clubs refused to give Sevco a place in the First Division.

SFA chief Stewart Regan predicted the slow lingering death of Scottish football as well as social unrest after his plan for Sevco was rejected by SFL clubs who granted Charles Green’s club a place in the Third Division.

Under the current set up Sevco won’t reach the top flight until the 2015/16 season with Lawwell seeing no prospect of that process being short circuited.

“I don’t see where that will come from,” Lawwell replied to the question of reconstruction.

“They are in the Third Division at the moment and it looks like it will take three or four years to get there.

“In my view, will Rangers get promoted each year? I believe they will be.

“Their resources are greater than any of the clubs they are up against and logically they will be back in the Premier League in four years.”

The formation of some sort of European league continues to surface from time to time with Lawwell open-minded to developments within UEFA.

“I think the way the world is changing,” he added. “The world’s got smaller, the strong appear to be getting stronger.

“In terms of media rights, the big nations are just growing and growing while smaller nations like ourselves, Holland and Belgium are being left behind financially.

“We recognise there are changes in the world. There are events that may occur, whether it’s through the media, or whether it’s through Uefa, that we need to keep tabs on and need to make sure that, if there is change, Celtic are part of that change.”

I think it’s the SKY TV contract. Was it not said in the media that SKY believed Sevco would drop down to Div 1 (instead of Div 3). i don’t believe SKY will want to show SPL as it is for 4 or 5 years waiting for Rangers to get back into SPL. The crowds are shocking, i live in Spain now & when i watch game highlights on BBC or STV, apart from Parkhead all the other stadiums look empty, whole stands empty, never saw it before in my life. Unless Lawell has a cunning plan to join a new atlantic league setup with Dutch, Belgian, Scandinavian teams etc, if not then SKY i imagine will want some action to get the b*ns back in top flight asap.

Think you’ll find crowds aren’t down and what good would it do having Sevco back in the SPL.
Wouldn’t benefit anyone other than Sevco and if cheats don’t get punished they’ll keep on cheating, this is our one chance to be rid of the Hunnish Sevcovians.

How is having Sevco in the SPL going to help the St Mirren V Dundee Utd crowd. The stadiums have been empty for a decade. They are no worse this year than they have been in the past.

Celtic are suffering more than any club. And do you know why? Because it is far too expensive to watch Celtic(season tickets more expensive than Man City!). 29 quid for the cheapest ticket! Lawwell needs to fix this. Charge 18 quid for an adult, 12 for a kid and you will see a rise in crowds. It should only be 25 quid for a parent and child ticket but they will never go for this.

Sevco’s crowds are good because it is cheaper than taking your kids to McDonalds!
