Paolo di Canio praised Swindon’s 5-0 victory over League One leaders Tranmere Rovers as perfection as he gears the club up for a full on promotion push.
The Italian has had a typically controversial year but with Swindon sitting in seventh place whatever he is attempting is paying off on the pitch.
Forner Celt Simon Ferry is a key part of di Canio’s plans having made his 100th appearance for the club earlier this season.
“Tonight was absolutely perfect before Christmas to say thanks to our fans,” di Canio stated. “They support us in a fantastic way but I want to say thanks for my players.
“I was sure we should win this game but not in this manner. You hope to do a perfect job but scoring five goals, missing a penalty and we created another six or seven good chances.
“The only negative thing is the last chance we conceded to them – a strike from 25 yards that didn’t make me enjoy the only moment in the game.
“Even that a person that doesn’t know nothing about football can understand what happened tonight. It’s a big message to everybody. With their quality, with our details, with our system this is what can happen.
“Obviously you can’t win 5-0 every time but in some way with Doncaster we played a similar way without as many goals.”
The Swindon boss added: “For me it’s normal to see my players behave in the way they have the last few weeks, with professionalism and commitment, but it is not easy. In modern football, with a new generation, it’s not easy.
“I have to thank them because they were amazing but we have done nothing. “Tonight was an amazing game, we have beaten a good side but we have to keep going otherwise it doesn’t mean anything. We’ll burn what we have done in an instant.”
