Neil Lennon has revealed his Premiership dream- to lead Celtic into the English top flight.
For over a decade Celtic have been looking for ways to develop the club outwith the limitations of Scotland.
This season’s Champions League run has given the entire club a boost but the cash it brings in is dwarfed by the ever growing income generated by the English Premiership.
Celtic can’t hope to compete in terms of wages with any Premiership side allowing Wigan, Southampton and other minnows to outbid the hoops for players.
Speculation has started that Lennon could become a target for a Premiership side but the hoops boss has another scenario in mind.
“I’ve got a job to do here, I’m very happy here and the ideal scenario would be to take Celtic into the Premier League,” he told Celtic TV. “And become a real world force.
“I think we’d do very well, we’d be hugely successful, we’re one of the biggest clubs in Britain anyway. The difference between us and the majority of Premiership clubs is the tv money, it’s huge, there’s huge disparity between what they get and ourselves.”
One advantage that the SPL has over the Premiership is a winter break with the Celtic boss looking forward to a fortnight off.
I’m all for it, especially for this season,” Lennon admitted. “We’ve played 30 odd games already and it’s beneficial for players who may be carrying knocks to get rested and cuts the games missed by players out injured.
“It gives the players the chance to get away from the cold for a few days, a chance to clear their heads for a few days then we’ll get them back for a mini pre-season then going into the Hearts game we’ll hopefully have a full squad to attack all four competitions again.”

The last time Scotland had a winter break, Celtic got to a European final and the manager said this was a contributing factor. London calling.
Lenny, follow your ambition mate! Stay with us, and get us out of this system. Get Big Peter on the case right away. The fans are already behind you!
I would welcome a crack at these so called best teams in the world. Imagine the English playing 2nd fiddle to us. They would be inconsolable. The icing on the cake would be to hammer every team Alan pardew manages against us. Looking very foolish now with his snide comments in the summer. Enjoy division 1 clown
I’d welcome a move to the EPL I’d welcome a move to the league of Ireland to be away from these tainted refs and a SFA/SPL run only for the benefit of Sevco.
