Champions League Celtic newsNeil Lennon is preparing to step up his Bundesliga Watch once Thursday’s Champions League draw is made.

Three of the seven sides that Celtic could face are from Germany with the Celtic boss impressed by their progress so far in the competition.

Bayern Munich have twice been losing finalists in the last three years with Lennon impressed by the side that are leading the Bundesliga by nine points.

“The German sides are all good,” the Celtic boss admitted. “Bayern have been one of the best teams in Europe for the last three or four years. They are exciting, powerful and attack from all areas and angles.

“Dortmund were impressive topping a group that contained Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax. Their style of football is fantastic. I haven’t seen a side play as well at the Etihad.

“Schalke made the semi finals in 2011 when Manchester United beat them so they have pedigree in this competition and bags of experience. They play expansive, open football and in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar they have a natural goalscorer.

“The Bundesliga is so strong with the crowds they get and the structures they have in place for supporters. You look at the gates and the average is 40-50,000. It is an incredible country, one steeped in footballing history.

“The World Cup was there in 2006 and they made the most of that legacy. Their league is full of top players such as Marco Reus, Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels and Philipp Lahm. Guys of that ilk are at the highest level of football.

“They would have been world or European champions but they just came up against a golden era of Spanish football.”

  • Yip, nuff said Lenny – I’d take Man Utd before any of the German teams in a minute. Man U albeit top of the EPL by 6pts, but that doesn’t tell the full story imo. The 2 teams that are 2nd and 3rd are both out the competition and Man U are far from their best. They’re leaking goals left right and center and only the likes of Rooney and RVP are pullin them out the proverbial sh!t3!. I think we have the personnel to cause them problems and a “battle of Britain” would suit out style of play at the moment!

Last 16 – bring it on!

    HH 1NL YNWA :))

True Jhimmy but Man U have the January transfer window to sort out their defensive troubles.

For me it’s got to be Malaga. Their owner left them to go to PSG & took his money with him. They have struggled to pay players wages since he left & are in sh!t loads of debt now. I can see them losing their star players in January & they could well be the weakest side in the tournament by the time the first leg comes.

More interested in who we get in the final 😉

Man who would be good draw. Though would fancy us against anyone at paradise! The power of our immense support strikes fear in to our opposition and inspires our bhoys! This is where we belong so bring it on. Would love a experienced commanding CH and a Playmaker in january window to strengthen our chances. Yes sands well said, these games just practice for wembley 😉

Who would you go for? I think that Lennon has done wonders with what he has spent. I’m the happiest I’ve been with the squad since martin O’Neill, I’ve a sneaking suspicion that we’re going to get a Bellamy type loan in for Europe. I would like to see a top centre half signed.

Id get rid of the dead wood and would give the scouting system orders to bring in the next hoopers, izzys, etc.

  • I would like Celtic to play man u I think we would do well against them As there back four are not that good this season We will see on Thursday HAIL HAIL THE BHOYS

Aye I agree Lenny has assembled a great squad but we are missing a creative midfielder that could be the difference in last 16. Scouting system has worked wonders.. a number 10 in the twilight of his career would do..pray there’s another Lubo out there.. Maybe need a miracle for that though…. CFCLCO
