Home alone party for Celtic skipper

Scott Brown is bracing himself for a home alone title party.

If Motherwell fail to pick up three points at Dundee United Celtic will be crowned SPL champions without kicking a ball.

Twelve months ago the midfielder was the heart and soul of the party as Celtic hammered Kilmarnock 6-0 at Rugby Park to take the title in style.

A Celtic v Motherwell clash on Sunday or Celtic home match tonight would have given the hoops the chance to clinch the title for themselves but for reasons best known to themselves the SPL have Motherwell playing tonight with Celtic in action on Sunday.

“The title could be won on Friday night and we will all be sitting in the house,” Brown said. “That means Sunday against Inverness would be a pointless game.

“It’s disappointing how the league have scheduled the games.

“It’s silly really. They knew that was going to happen and they have put a game on Friday and our game is on Sunday and nobody knows why.

“I hope Motherwell go out and get a good result so we turn up and win the championship ourselves, not because someone else has dropped points.”

Looking at the difficulties supporters face on Sunday the club captain added: “The support is always there, it’s just hard for people to get up at 4am to watch Celtic playing at 12.45pm when they know the league is already done and dusted and they could watch the game on telly.

“The early kick-offs are hard, especially going up north. People are having to leave at 7am on a Sunday morning which isn’t ideal at all.”
