SPFL amazingly agree Hearts’ Danny Wilson deal

Tynecastle newsThe newly formed Scottish Professional League has got off to a blundering start by allowing Hearts to sign and register Danny Wilson.

Following a week in which staff have been made redundant, players have been made redundant or taken 50% pay cuts alongside fans being urged to buy a second season ticket the decision to allow the registration of the former Liverpool defender defies all logic.

Wilson was unveiled at Tynecastle earlier this season as a ‘signing’ but once the club moved into administration it was revealed that his registration hadn’t been completed with the SFA.

At the time of the transfer Hearts were in the midst of a desperate push to sell season tickets with Wilson’s arrival held up as an example of the club’s financial well being.

Hearts have announced that the former Liverpool defender has taken a pay cut to move to Tynecastle with the SPFL showing that financial fair play isn’t a priority as they launch a new era in Scottish football.

A statement from the SPFL said: “The SPFL Player Registration of Heart of Midlothian FC player Danny Wilson would, had he not agreed a contract extension, have terminated on 30 June.

“The SPFL has now received documents extending the contract of the player.

“As a result, the Player’s existing SPFL registration is automatically extended and is not affected by the embargo on new SPFL Player Registrations currently in place on Heart of Midlothian FC as a result of Heart of Midlothian plc (in administration) being in administration.”

The wording of the statement seems to suggest that it is a continuous registration however it’s highly unlikely that the loan deal agreed in January ran until the end of June covering six weeks without Hearts playing a single match.

While clubs like Hibs, Partick Thistle, St Mirren, Motherwell and Dundee United lose players and attempt to live within their means it seems that Hearts wish to continue with the irresponsible spending of the past that took the club into administration.

Jambos manager Gary Locke, who is working without an assistant, said: “Danny was already due to be part of the team and the administration has made no difference to his status.

“I appreciate that there have been some difficult decisions made regarding player redundancies but given that Danny has agreed to a wage cut and is happy to be playing for Hearts, this gives us an opportunity to improve the team for the forthcoming season so why wouldn’t we jump at the chance to have him on our side?”

It does not matter if it’s with-in the rules and regulations (or not) it’s the same arrogance that sevco uses all the time. So don’t be surprised. Think of the players and staff who didn’t get the same consideration when made redundant. Here we go again.

    Same shit, different club

    its the huns two…..

Actually boys football with the SYFA runs to 30th June for registrations so this might be the case with the seniors also.

  • Green Lantern says:

I don’t see what difference it’ll make in the long run.

They’re DOOMED! DOOMED ah tell ye!

    Sevco scroungers Mark 2.

Did we really expect any different? The game in Scotland is in the gutter as a direct result of the establishment and their corruptions. We have always known that reorganizing the league set up only meant bringing in more funny handshakers to help push the bias and bigotry through. Our game is done, the corruption will not only remain, it will get worse.

  • Sweeney Hughes says:

‘They’ do what they want, no rules, no regulations, no integrity, no honesry, just corruption, lying, thieving, cheating and total corruption.

    I’ts fu$$ing embarresing.

I seriously hope Big Peter knows what he’s doing!

All pro contracts run to 30 June so nothing wrong with this. The player has taken a wage cut from the original agreement, so where is the problem? Why do we have to crucify Hearts? Give them a break and stop the hate-filled gloating. It’s nothing like what happened at Ibrox, so cut them some slack FFS.

    • Al says:

I agree with Tom. Why are we so obsessed with the trials and tribulations of others. And is it in our interests that the league we have no choice but to play in gets weakened further? I hope that Hearts come out of this ok; end up giving some of the young lads a chance and provide us with some level of domestic competition next season to fill the gaps between our European adventures. Then I’ll get good value out of my season tickets and my investment in the club I love. HH

My point exactly mate. Give them a brake n look at it as the SFA trying to keep at least 1 derby in the league. Celtic and a edinburgh derby is a selling point just for scottish football to even get a TV deal. and to be honest, without at least 1 of the derbys still active in league, we won’t get f*€k all TV money/deals.

Stop with the hate filled comments. Stop being so small minded and think about the big picture guys.

        Are you two for real????

Sorry, lets get rid of these clubs who are DRAGGING the name of Scottish football through the mud.

I didn’t see any help being donated to Third Lanark, Clydebank, Gretna or Airdrie.

We should keep the boot on the throats of Sevco, Hearts, Dunfermline and hopefully soon to be the same Kilmarnock.

Any energies for other clubs should go to clubs like Ross County, Partick Thistle and St Mirren as they live within their means and refuse to put their clubs in danger unlike that other manky group who financially doped themselves just to pay their boards huge salaries.

I for one do not want to play teams that cheat the taxman and can’t even pay their OWN players.

        Hail hail

So by your logic, Celtic shouldn’t have been allowed to survive in 1994?

The point is, neither Hearts nor the SPFL have bent any rules here. Hearts went into administration and have been punished within the rules.

Where does nonsense like “lets get rid of these clubs” come from, other than your own bitterness? GET A GRIP.

    • Jimbo102 says:

Sorry Tom, your way off the mark. Celtic DID NOT go into administration. We got our own house in order with the help of NOBODY else in Scottish football in fact they were all baying for our blood if you remember.

So there is no ambiguity here, here’s exactly where I stand. If we had behaved like any of the manky clubs now in admin or worse then I’m afraid I would no longer be a Celtic supporter. I don’t believe in being two faced. Hopefully I’ll never have to face that in reality. In my book it only has to happen once and the all trust in the club goes.

      Hail hail

  • Hyperreal says:

Bang on Jimbo , and I laugh when the sevconians talk about ‘Karma’, surely what they are experiencing is Karma for the way they behaved when Celtic went through our difficult time in 94. We didn’t stand by and beg for help and plead and beg for a sugar daddy , we dug deep rolled up our sleeves and got on with it blaming no one ( other than the board)

  • Keith Fi Leith says:

To keep hearts alive, till September , they will have spent all 9,000 season ticket money , and all ( wonga ) major sponsor money’s – yet the powers that be , will let this players registration be put through , my jambo pals are wondering ,how the administrator’s plan to survive , ?
