Celtic will be backed by their noisiest ever support tonight with the roof closed at the Amsterdam Arena.
Constant rain over the last two days means that the roof will be closed over after Ajax consulted with Celtic and UEFA.
Neil Lennon tweeted: “New experience for the players tonight as the roof on the stadium will be closed.”
Around 13,000 fans have made the trip to Amsterdam despite only 2,600 tickets officially given to visiting fans from Ajax.
Celtic fans are believed to have tickets for almost every area of the ground with the strong sales of half-n-half scarves.
The majority of supporters arrived in Amsterdam today with flights from throughout the UK and Ireland arriving full of Celtic supporters.
Dam Square, a ten minute walk from Central Station, has been the main meeting point with other tourists from the nearby Madame Tusauds Museum peering out to take pictures of the supporters under the careful watch of local police.
Looking forward to tonight’s match former Celtic striker Pierre van Hoojidonk tweeted: “Scottish weather in Amsterdam,Scottish night too? #CL #ajacel #Celtic #hailhail #????????????
Anticipating a pivotal match in Celtic’s Champions League campaign Lennon said: “It is a pressure game for Ajax, we can come here and, not be relaxed, but have a real go at the game.
“If we are to progress we have to pick something up away but we don’t need to win.
“If we can get a point and beat Milan at home that gives us seven points and gives us a real chance of qualifying.
“I think it was important that we got some points on the board against Ajax in the last game but we are under no illusions as to how difficult this will be.
“Ajax were very unfortunate not to beat Milan here in match day two. I think the Champions League inspires players and gets the best out of them. I hope that is the case for our players tonight.”
