Georgios Samaras Euro 2012Georgios Samaras won’t travel with Celtic to Turkey tomorrow as talks continue over his contract stalemate.

The Greek internationalist was missing from the Celtic side that turned on the style to demolish St Mirren 4-0 this afternoon.

Samaras is out of contract in the summer and is believed to have offers from Spain, England and North America.

Neil Lennon has been a big supporter of the former Manchester City man but hinted that a parting of the ways could soon be on the cards.

“Georgios has a bit of time to think about his future,” the Celtic boss explained.

“He won’t be coming to Turkey, he will be staying to have some treatment and hopefully we will have an answer one way or the other on his future when we come back.

“He had a meeting with Peter (Lawwell) yesterday. You are never confident one way or the other. He has a lot to think about.

“It is a big contract for him, he is 29 so the next three or four years of his career is important.

“We would like him to be here but that may not be the case.”

Celtic’s 4-0 win over the Paisley side was exactly the result and performance that Lennon was looking for.

After a goal-less first half the hoops scored four times in 19 minutes after the break thanks to strikes from Charlie Mulgrew, Anthony Stokes and a double from Kris Commons.

It was a day of landmarks for the hoops with Stokes scoring his 100th career goal, Commons his 50th (and 51st) Celtic goals and an eighth domestic clean sheet for the defence stretching back to November 23 when Niall McGinn scored for Aberdeen.

    Well said, Paul McCann

    Drawkab salutes georgios samaras.

I command you to stay samaras.

Take no notice of those who do not appreciate you.

Half of the celtic support adore you.

    Ignore the other half.

Most of them don’t watch the game any way.

    Haw haw haw.

I can also understand not taking Samaras to Turkey ,considering the fact that there is no love lost between the two countries, Greece and Turkey.

There is no doubt in my mind that Samaras has been a great servant and loves the Club .Many supporters don’t like Georgios at all .Remember the fiasco after the 4-0 defeat by St Mirren and the dismissal of Mowbray .The fans really went after Samaras with Lennon.

Georgios reminds me very much of the great John Hughes of the European Cup team era .’Feed the Bear,he is every f—–g where, feed the bear’ .

You never knew what he was going to do with his runs .Samaras has that same unpredictability about his play. You either love him or hate him.

Like Hughes however Samaras is a Celtic man through and through and I for one hope he stays.

Well said sir loved Big John You never new what he was going todo All was remember against the Huns watt a player that day Hail HAil JMJ

  • drawkcab says:

    Edward

    I completely agree with you.

I have spoke to a number of supporters about Samaras.

The football guys love him but acknowledge that sometimes his efforts don’t quite come off.

The political guys who don’t tend to talk much about football tend to not like him.

What puzzles me is the same guys loved paddy McCourt who was a similar type of enigma.

    I wonder why.

Some of Celtic’s football in the second half was fantastic to watch today!
Kris Commons take a bow son, 10/10!

Meanwhile a Stenhousemuir player calls Ally McCoist a prick 🙂
    Quality!

  • Monti says:

    R.I.P. EUSEBIO!

BEFORE MY TIME BUT RESPECT……A GOOD FRIEND OF OUR JINKY APPARENTLY!

  • williebhoy says:

I certainly hope he goes in this transfer window, it will be a real slap in the face if he sits tight and goes for free.

Tragic loss of a true legend in Eusebio and a genuine sportsman at that…sad start to the new year

  • Timtim67 says:

It really will be a happy new year if that waste of 18k a week Samaras goes

When he tries he is great but when he doesnt he is worse than a man short and unfortunately he doesnt try enough

    • peter says:

      Agree totally,Timtim67.

      A luxury we can’t afford.
Is there any coincedence our 3 best away
      performances,hearts,well and today.16
      goals scored,and sammi wasn’t playing ?

He is found out now in the CL, and teams
      know how to play him.
He did well to reinvent himself over the
last couple of seasons.Last seaon was the
best we will get from him.

Thanks sammi, go and reinvent yourself
      somewhere else.

  • john says:

I dont understand why some supporters dont rate big Georgios, as he is one of the few players we have that can do damage to others in Europe. Please sign again big man!

  • dublinbhoy says:

I hope Sammi and Super Joe sign new contracts. Sammi is one of our few Euro class players and we would be crazy to let him run down his contract. The same people who berate our big Greek also slam Ledley and Stokes who are also fine players, imho.

If we have to get rid of anyone let Pukki go…now there’s a waste of a jersey if I ever saw one. We have a few others that obviously have not put enough pressure on our first team for a place. Prune the squad Lenny but keep our class players!

    Hail Hail

    • Timtim67 says:

Stokes is awful but i would like Ledley to stay.
I dont understand why Stokes gets a game.
      Stokes, Samaras, Pukki, Boerrigter OUT
Finbogason or Johanson, Gauld, Nakhi Wells IN

  • HoopNo7 says:

Few dead weights in the team that need lifted but that will be almost impossible with such damning support… Pukki, Borreigter, Balde not having time to settle and immediately written off…. @timtim67, same will happen to the guys you have mentioned if they dont hit the ground running. Possibly Finbogason with his experience but this guy is no Ronaldinho, simply a goalscorer and will not really alter the creativness or lack of throughout the team. Gauld is just a kid untested in Celtics environment and Wells decent enough but untested yet again.

I dont think its unrealistic to demand a level of success from the team and although performances havent been CL standard no one can deny that the team in place have delivered domestically what they have been asked to do. Time to stop criticising and start Supporting because who we have is what we got. Id like to see two maybe 3 Quality players to inspire the rest of the guys that are trying their best to do a bit better! Hopefully, this will be my january christmaa present from Celtic because Santa was a bawbag last month! HH!

    • peter says:

      HoopNo7.

As I have said before, this team needs quality, middle to front.
      Wells untested ? True,but is a goalscorer.
Was Hooper tested before he came ?

Pukki, was bought as a goalscorer and
kris commons, a midfielder, is putting him
      to shame.
How long does it take to settle ?

      Doing well domestically ?
      Morton ?
Have you been at all home league games ?
      Have you been entertained ?
Have the players not just when through
the motions at times, and did enough to win,and no more ?

      There’s major room for improvement.

    • Timtim67 says:

How has Pukki not been given a chance? He has played over 20 games and scored 3 goals. You expect that from a defensive midfielder, not your main striker.
Balde should be given a chance instead of Pukki and Atajic should be given a chance instead of Stokes

  • drawkcab says:

And samaras is the best looking

    • peter says:

      drawkcab,

whatever takes your fancy, re big sammi.
Personally, I like to see him all wrapped up.With ski hat, snood and gloves on.

That way I know he’s not on the park !!

      haw haw haw
      HH

  • DarrenBhoy1888 says:

Personally I think it’s time sammi moves on to another club.. He’s been at celtic for 6 years now, has won trophies and experienced cl football aswell.. Plus he’s 29 and not getting any younger.. Celtic need quality if they want to progress further in the cl, the only way your going to do that is splash a bit of cash..

We need to stop buying under rated players who don’t offer alot such as pukki.. We need an inform striker who can get at least 25 to 30 a season, also a center mid to replace scott brown and a left back to replace Izaguirre.

That for me is where celtic are lacking.. If we don’t strengthen those areas then we can wave good bye to the last 16 of the cl.

    • Timtim67 says:

Brown will not be replaced. He is one of our best players. Ledley should be replaced. Cant stand his negative thinking and backward passes

  • drawkcab says:

    Peter

Thank you for the haw haw haw

    Sami for mr universe

    Haw haw haw

    • peter says:

      Drawkcab,
mr universe ? What league do they play in?

As long as it’s not University Challenge .
As we know big Sammi, doesn’t like a
      challenge !!

      Yours in sammi.(your idol )

      Boom Boom Tsh.

  • David says:

Lots of comments with regards to players in and out. My feeling is we need a new experienced Manager who will not only bring in the right type of players we need, but is tactically aware of what is needed to help us reach the Champions league group satges and even beyond. That man is gus hiddink and i beleive he is available.

  • drawkcab says:

    Peter

Thank you for the boom boom and the tsh.

Samu is getting a three year contract.

    Ting ting ting.

    • peter says:

      Thank God, Sammu’s ? getting a 3 year
      contract, and not Sammi.
