Final decision time for Doncaster and friends

Neil-DoncasterWhere will we host the final of the League Cup- that is the dilemma that Neil Doncaster and their colleagues face this morning.

With Hampden out of bounds there should only be one choice to host the show-piece event ensuring that every supporter of Aberdeen or Inverness Caley Thistle gets to see their side go for silverware.

A stadium with a 60,000 capacity and lay out that allows tickets to be sold on a section by section basis avoiding the traditional ‘cup final ticket row’ that even cropped up for last season’s St Mirren v Hearts final at Hampden.

Over the last two seasons Celtic Park has hosted seven Champions League ties with the stadium spic and span offering everything needed for supporters and media.

As well as the obvious credentials Celtic’s contribution to Scottish football is beyond question with the SPL then SPFL receiving £1m plus from Celtic’s Champions League success over each of the last two seasons.

Celtic’s investment in Scottish footballers can be seen throughout the game with two and three former youth team players in opposition in a number of matches every weekend with players currently out on loan at Kilmarnock, Morton, Hamilton Accies, Dumbarton and Falkirk.

Whether Doncaster and his committee men at Hampden award the final to Celtic Park remains unclear.

Across the city there is a 50,000 capacity stadium at Ibrox that houses the black sheep of the Scottish game.

The club that harbours deep grudges despite being given the hand of friendship by being fast tracked into the professional game with the folly of overlooking the production of five years of audited accounts now coming home to roost.

Where the manager regularly fires off complaints about the treatment of his club while  knowing the background to the Decisions he has queried.

As Hearts avoided a fine for administration Ally McCoist questioned why Rangers (IL) had been fined despite the Ibrox club requesting that type of punishment.

When McCoist asked ‘who are these people’ after the club was hit with a registration embargo his football administrator, Andrew Dickson, had sat through the hearing.

Every week across the country a group of fans pose for a picture with a banner proclaiming ‘SFA AND SPFL CORRUPT TO THE CORE’.

But will the SPFL hand that club the hosting of the League Cup Final?

Ibrox is not good enough.it is run down

  • seldomsober says:

Of course this game is going to be played at snake mountain to try and bail the HUN hoardes out again.

  • OldRossCo says:

The final is due to be played on the 16th of March. Plans have to be put in place soon, but it is not safe to assume that the all new Rangers will still be solvent.

If Ibrox is chosen, they are exposing the SPFL to unnecessary risk and in doing so are not doing their job properly.

  • Graeme says:

The financial benifits to holding this final are minimal to us. But are massive to sevco. And for that reason alone we must get to be host stadium.

  • StephenPollock says:

You put a good case for it going to Paradise and with the uncertainty at Ibrox it is a no brainer. Saying that would not at all be surprised if it goes to Ibrox.

  • Phaco says:

Anyone know if that shitehole has a safety certificate?. I would,nt go near that fe-kin dump with a barge pole.hh

  • peter says:

    Joe,

I love your line, “houses the black sheep
of the scottish game.” Brilliant !

Favouritism and sympathy has already been shown to sevco ( I don’t mean getting a licence ) but by giving them 2 semi- finals. They will benefit, with a 20%
cut of the gate, plus catering etc.

If it’s not Easter Road,Celtic Park is the only viable and decent stadium to host a
    final.
Also fixtures would not.have to be moved.
The day before,we are away to Killie.
Whereas, the club playing out of Ibrokes
are at home,to a decent club, known as the Pars.
As stadiums need 48 hours,to be prepared for finals, the only logical and
logistical solution, is to play the game at
the home of the Scottish Champions.

I wouldn’t like to inconvience any Zombies ( if their club is still living ) by
having them moving a big third tier game
away from a Saturday to a mid- week day.

Surely, this should be Doncaster’s only
    consideration.Zombie fans need their
Saturday fix, of top-level third rate ( sorry,
    tier ) football.

  • Celts agogo says:

Play it up north , Tannadice. If I were inverness play at Pittodrie and they take dick donald stand

  • Andrew says:

Really the logical solution would be to play two legs , one in Aberdeen and one in Inverness, both clubs making huge profits , and all the fans filling the grounds . It happens in ” smaller leagues ” like Spain and Germany , so why not . Who could complain?

  • The Silver Fhox says:

It has to be played at either Tannadice or at Easter Road or Tynecastle.
Tannadice is more logical and would suit both sets of Fans for travelling.
As noted above, by Peter, fixtures that weekend should also be considered.
Lets hope the Aberdeen fans can behave themselves.

  • thomas Haverstock says:

There is only one park that is up to stander for a cup final and we all no where it is The others are to small or need to be demolish Or are old and need of a major repaire Hail Hail JMJ

  • Joe says:

Doncaster is a scumbag. You all know where his vote goes.

  • drawkcab says:

    Play it at murrayfield

    • peter says:

      Drawkcab,

Why give an elitist sport like rugby money?
In Scotland, the ruggers is for fee-paying
school types.Unlike in Wales and Ireland.

There is no ground big enough up north.
As it’s their first final in 19 years, the
sheepshaggers will have 20k + wanting to
      go.
The word is,it will be Celtic Park.
I hope Caley give the sheepshaggers, a good humping, when it comes around.

  • shuggiebhoy67 says:

Celtic should offer Celtic Park free gratis for the Cup Final and the good of Scottish football;))

  • John Winters says:

Been told there being played at ipox as this will give them cash to keep them going till end of season

  • Joe says:

Isn’t it brilliant to read about the geordies spitting blood now that the goalie they couldn’t realize was the best on their books has now embarrassed them by breaking record afte record with the biggest club in the UK? All the infantile jealousy about how the scottish league is this and that, while their own team are managed by te worst manager in the history of the game. This is about to be exposed even more now that the man who was obviously pulling the strings there has now resigned. Pardew will be wetting his pants now. Thats for sure. The league that newcastle are in is a five team league with a load of hangers on below that so the worst league is actually e second “league” in the EPL, from team six to the bottom. They ar not a part of any league really.

    • peter says:

      Joe,

      Totally agree,and coherently posted,unlike
drawkcab ( when he’s on the brandy haw)

What history do Newcastle have ?
When did they last win anything ?

      As for their EPL ?

A league within leagues. With the foreign
players far superior to their English counterparts.
Thus the reason,England will fail badly at
the World Cup. (and we can celebrate )

I wonder if Gary Hooper regrets his move
to such a small team, that is struggling at
      the bottom end.
He made an arse of it,and when a player
leaves Paradise,it will always be a downward step.

  • drawkcab says:

Final will be played at celtic park.

Was I right or was I right.

    Haw haw haw.
