Stewart Regan newsDundee United fans are set to turn the Govan Stand at Ibrox tangerine!

Despite being forced to play a semi-final match away from home United supporters have snapped up every ticket grudgingly made available to them by the SFA.

An initial allocation of  just 8,000 tickets was quickly sold out with Tannadice season ticket holders swamping their club for tickets. A public sale of tickets started this morning which was expected to shift the remaining tickets forcing the SFA to hand over Govan Stand tickets being held back for Sevco fans.

Discussing the fans demand for tickets United director David Robertson said: “This has been a staggering response, in just four days, from our supporters and an equally great response from our ticketing and admin staff to cope with this exceptional demand.

“We are now hoping that general sales will see this response continue and ensure a magnificent backing to the team on the day.

“There have been a lot of so-called ‘expert’ opinion expressed that United fans wouldn’t turn up in sufficient numbers for this match and therefore didn’t deserve this type of ticket allocation. Well, the facts tell a completely different story.”

The show of support from United fans is a slap in the face to the SFA who tried to force through an allocation of just 8,000 tickets on the SPFL giants.

United chairman Stephen Thompson was outraged when the SFA issued a statement detailing United’s previous allocation of semi-final tickets without doing the same for the three other semi-finalists.

Thompson will sit with the United supporters rather than in the VIP area of Ibrox.
