Ally McCoist newsComical Ally McCoist believes that Sevco can be Scottish champions in two years time!

The excitement of clinching the League One title seems to have overshadowed the grim warnings issued by auditors Deloitte that the club is heading for administration unless drastic action is taken.

McCoist’s spending spree has burnt it’s way through £17.7m on route to lifting the League One title with chairman David Somers highlighting the signing of nine players last year as an example of the excesses that have put the club in danger of administration.

Switching from shareholder and investor, the former Question of Sport skipper bought up shares at one penny alongside Imran Ahmad and Charles Green in July 2012, to football manager, McCoist is adamant that Sevco will be pushing for the title should they survive in business through to the start of the 2015/16 season.

“No, it’s not an option,” he responded to the notion that the first season could be a campaign of consolidation on the back of three promotions. “We know it goes with the territory here, you are expected to win the vast majority of games and you’re expected to get promoted and get back in the top league as quickly as possible.

“So far, these boxes are getting ticked although there have been one or two hiccups along the way, which we always said there would be.’

“We’ve never made up the numbers at all. No matter what league we’ve played in or where we’ve played, we’ve always believed we’ve had a chance of winning the competition and I don’t see any reason why that should change.  In fact, it shouldn’t change and it can’t change.”

While other clubs live within their means, buying and selling at a level that meets their income those basic rules don’t seem to apply around Ibrox.

With no sign of cost cutting or ways to increase income it seems certain that administration is around the corner with only the timing up for debate.

In his first three seasons as a Rangers (IL) player McCoist never finished higher than fourth in the then Premier Division.
