Mikael Lustig newsMikael Lustig is on course for a first team return next month.

The defender underwent surgery- to shave bone off both hips- in December but has now returned to the training pitch.

Lustig was one of Celtic’s top performers in the early part of the season but after playing through the pain barrier was put under the knife once Sweden’s World Cup hopes had ended alongside Celtic’s European dream.

The Swede should be available for selection next month and is delighted to see the finishing line in sight from his first ever serious injury.

“Getting back out on to the field was like a breakthrough day because it’s not a lot of fun being in the gym every day on the bike and seeing the players out on the pitch,” he admitted.

“You come to the training ground and see the boys but they then go one way and you go the other.

“The first couple of weeks were okay but then it got tough. You are sitting on a bike and see the boys through the window of the gym out on the field having fun.

“There has been nothing too odd in the rehabilitation, just coming in and doing the same things but I knew from the beginning it was going to be four months out and it’s always nice when you realise you can do more things week by week.

“I feel as though the problem has been helped and I really hope things are going to be better.

“Sometimes it felt as though I was standing still and not getting better but I can see progress now. It’s hard but you do it because you know why and because you love football.”

Lustig is a player we MUST keep.I read
an article,a few months ago, where he said
he was unsure of his futire.
The trend of us losing our best players is
worrying.Yes,if the price is right,it.is hard
to turn down a huge fee.

Now Virgil’s agent is making noises, that
his client will be off in the summer. For
    whose benefit ?
Obviously his agent earns (not approp word ) a sizeable cut of the transfer fee.
But,I would hope,Virgil will stay for another season.

In this respect, it is hard for Lenny to have
stability in his team.A revolving door for
our best talent, means more and more
difficult nights in the Champions League.

  • Monti says:

Lustig is a class act, knows how to defend & when to get forward.
I hope the board are going to be playing hard ball with English clubs wanting our best players, I remember Peter Taylor being difficult when we were trying to sign Neil Lennon & that twat Alan Pardew at Newcastle was the same with big Lurch!

£15m for VVD ….let the bidding begin!

Should it not be a signing policy of ours that any player signed on a three year deal, must stay a minimum of 2 full seasons?
This would create stability for the club, fans & player!
UNLESS a monster bid came in!

Turning 28 next season, I’d like to see Lustig move one in, I.e right centre half next year, replacing Ambrose. A steady cool dependable centre half along side van dijk…. And let’s see young Matthews push on to the next level at right back.
