John Beaton cheatsCash strapped Sevco were tonight celebrating an unexpected windfall after drawing 1-1 with Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

Trailing to an early goal from plumber Ciaran Donnelly it took a late honest mistake from John Beaton to present Bilel Mohsni with an equaliser as the defender knocked goalkeeper Neil Parry and the ball into the net meaning that the two sides will have to play again in a replay at Hamilton’s New Douglas Park.

With Sky Sports likely to show the replay live on television the Ibrox side look like picking up a £100,000 cheque just weeks after gaining an emergency loan to enable them to meet the February payroll.

Discussing the equaliser the £850,000-a-year Ibrox supremo Ally McCoist admitted: “If you look at Mohsni, not having seen it again, he jumps and I don’t think he has any idea where the goalkeeper is and it hits his head and goes in.

“It’s a goal for me. I think the easy decision for the referee was to give a foul but I thought he was very brave in giving the right decision.”

Discussing his side’s thrilling fightback he added: “I am obviously relived that we are still in the cup. For 70-odd minutes we weren’t going to be in the cup but we got the break, got the goal and the main feeling is relief.

“I thought Albion Rovers defended very well but on pressure we certainly deserved to take something out of the game and the draw was what we got.

“I have had a look at the draw but as you saw today, it would be wild of me to have the audacity to look forward to a home tie against Dundee United. I am certainly not going to do that. I think we at least deserve another crack at Albion Rovers.”

Beaton, another of Hugh Dallas’ recruits from the Lanarkshire Referee Association, will be in charge of the replay with the winner playing Dundee United in the semi-final.

Thanks Drawcab, you’re a gent. Cannae wait tae Friday tae see Griffiths banging in a few more. I predicted he’d get around 15 by the end of the season.
As for sevco, I think Albion’s chance has gone unfortunately, cannae see sevco playing so badly twice in a row. But Dundee Utd will eat them and spit them oot.

You were right, with help from the SFA,
they will get sky money, after all. With the
    game on,on Monday St.Patrick’s Day.

How fair is that, to a part-time team,to
play 2 games in 48 hours. They should have told the SFA,where to stick their replay date.
