Honest mistake earns Sevco Scottish Cup windfall

John Beaton cheatsCash strapped Sevco were tonight celebrating an unexpected windfall after drawing 1-1 with Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

Trailing to an early goal from plumber Ciaran Donnelly it took a late honest mistake from John Beaton to present Bilel Mohsni with an equaliser as the defender knocked goalkeeper Neil Parry and the ball into the net meaning that the two sides will have to play again in a replay at Hamilton’s New Douglas Park.

With Sky Sports likely to show the replay live on television the Ibrox side look like picking up a £100,000 cheque just weeks after gaining an emergency loan to enable them to meet the February payroll.

Discussing the equaliser the £850,000-a-year Ibrox supremo Ally McCoist admitted: “If you look at Mohsni, not having seen it again, he jumps and I don’t think he has any idea where the goalkeeper is and it hits his head and goes in.

“It’s a goal for me. I think the easy decision for the referee was to give a foul but I thought he was very brave in giving the right decision.”

Discussing his side’s thrilling fightback he added: “I am obviously relived that we are still in the cup. For 70-odd minutes we weren’t going to be in the cup but we got the break, got the goal and the main feeling is relief.

“I thought Albion Rovers defended very well but on pressure we certainly deserved to take something out of the game and the draw was what we got.

“I have had a look at the draw but as you saw today, it would be wild of me to have the audacity to look forward to a home tie against Dundee United. I am certainly not going to do that. I think we at least deserve another crack at Albion Rovers.”

Beaton, another of Hugh Dallas’ recruits from the Lanarkshire Referee Association, will be in charge of the replay with the winner playing Dundee United in the semi-final.

    Joe,

    Good tongue-in-cheek article.

As Scoobles said,as replay is CL night,NO
    much sought after dough.

I decided to watch my first lower tier game of the season.3’rd v 4’th tier.I have
    a soft spot for Albion.
As Sevco got more desperate,BIG punt
into the box,I turned to my wife, and said
the ref will give them a decision soon.
Low and behold, big punt,Bile Moshpit, arms outstretched, like a basketball player,
blocks off the Tax Man (goalkeeper )

My wife ( not interested in football ) says,
are you allowed to do that ?
I told her, the laws of the game, don’t
    apply at Ibrokes !!

    • drawkcab says:

      Your wife is a psychiatrist.

Dont let her help in any way.

On second thoughts I know her.

      Let her loose.

  • drawkcab says:

Tonight I told the wife.” get immunised im going to hamilton”

    • peter says:

      Drawcab,

Gone yer self, on the brandy ?

      Tomorrow’s headline in daily dump,

TAXMAN ( goalkeeper ) STOPPED FROM
DOING HIS JOB AT IBROKES ( again )

  • Wulz88 says:

It’ll never change, new team same rules for the brethren. That goal would never have stood at the other end.
    PURE CRAP !

  • Jimmy says:

Desperado of the highest order, fans immediately into their songs as the ball hit the net. They are welcome to each other, No class whatsoever.

  • peter says:

    Off Topic.

    First,I hope drawkcab has a hangover,and
is still in his bed. lol.

Second, that’s the first and last lower tier
    game,I am going to watch.
    Quality ?
I have seen more skillful Junior games.

Finally, what was all this talk of Sevco bringing through their young players ?
    Yesterday,ONE,called aird in their team.

Is it any wonder they are in the state that
they are in.Playing part-timers,while forking out on a playing budget, second to
    ours.

    Madness or what ???

  • williebhoy says:

Have to say I thought the keeper should take most of the blame, he really should have dealt with (a) the punt easily by punching away & (b) any players by going through them..take everything as keeper ALWAS gets the benefit. IMHO he crapped it big time and cost his side a result….unlikely to get as good an opportunity second time around.

Only watched the last 20 mins and mostly thoughtless punts into the box, Dundee Utd must be shaking in their boots NOT.

  • Popes11 says:

Willie… Punch the ball away? The keepers positioning to jump and catch the ball was perfect, even if he wanted to punch it, it would have been impossible.
The poor guy ended up in the back of the net with the big ‘lumox’ still lying on top of him.
it was as big a foul on a goalkeeper as you will ever see.

  • Hugh Burns says:

Shocking thats the only thing you can say. Once again “servco” get out of trouble thanks AGAIN to a refs honest mistake. One Hugh Dallas` recruits? Sounds just about right. Keep them nuckles cracking lads and you all can be “refs”!!

  • Andybhoy5 says:

I watched them against east fife last week and most of the game yesterday and they are off the ‘gash’ scale!! Richard gough thought they would deal with rovers easily but did he get a shock. They could throw £20m at that lot and it wouldn’t scratch the surface of how band they are

    • peter says:

      Yes,Anbhoy5,

      Inferior,sub-standard football.The first
game I’ve watched from the lower tiers,
      never again.

Just as well Sevco’s game is not on,on our
screens on Wednesday. To win a lower tier
league, and what they have spent, is nothing to boast about.

Low-key coverage of this match, is what it
      deserves.

  • Funkyy says:

    @Drawcab,

    HAW!!!!!!

  • Funky says:

    @Drawcab,
    one rival robs

    Haw!!!!

  • Funky says:

Did I post that twice? Or is there an echo?

  • Funky says:

    ….an echo?..echo?…echo?

  • Williebhoy says:

Sorry popes11, but if that was MY keeper I’d be bawling him out big time.

Any semi-decent keeper knows when attacking a high ball, to clear everything & anyone in front of him. I stand by my comment he could & should have punched the ball easily instead went up anticipating a foul (probably thought if he could catch /attempt to catch the ball it would
further strengthen his case) Rank bad goalkeeping for me – Henry Smith variety.

    • peter says:

      williebhoy,

I can see your arguement. But,in the modern game, surely the keeper deserves
      protection ?
      Maybe,in the keeper’s mind,as time was
      marching on,if he pushed Moshpit,the
obligatory penalty would have been given
      as usual.
Re Henry Smith a la 88′ cup semi,Mark McGhee challenged fairly, his arms were
      not up,like Moshpit’s.
