Luke DonnellyCeltic’s u-20 side turned on the style to bury Hibs 6-0 in the semi-final of the SFA Youth Cup.

A four goal burst midway through the first half booked a final place for Stevie Frail’s side with Hibs unable to live with the pace and intensity of Celtic’s play.

Having beaten Motherwell, Dundee United, Hamilton and Hibs to reach the final the young hoops will be looking for their fifth trophy success in six years when they reach Hampden.

Luke Donnelly helped himself to four of the goals, starring in the Johansen/Commons role behind lone striker Blair Currie in a position that Hibs found impossible to nail down.

Currie and Fiacre Kelleher were also on the score-sheet in a great team performance from 1-11. Eoghan O’Connell, returning from injury, and Stuart Findlay in the centre of defence, brought some experience to the side as Hibs were given a torrid night.

Jordan Hart pulled off a decent save from Jordan Sinclair in the ninth minute but after that it was virtually one way traffic towards the Hibs goal.

A free kick from Calum Waters in the 15th minute put Kleton Perntreou in trouble but as the keeper dropped the ball the angle was too tight for Stuart Findlay to put the ball in the net.

Four minutes later the hoops made the breakthrough when Donnelly collected a pass from Sam Wardrop, appeared to take one touch too much then stabbed a low shot past Kleton Perntreou in the Hibs goal.

The Edinburgh side had little time to settle when Kelleher doubled the lead powering a header past Perntreou from Waters free kick on the left.

Currie was next on the score-sheet steering the ball in off the far post after Wardop’s cross had left the Hibs defence exposed.

Celtic refused to settle on their advantage with Donnelly making it four just past the half hour mark when he netted from 10 yards out from a cut back from Currie.

Just past the hour mark Donnelly completed his hat-trick slotting the ball home from the penalty spot after Hibs keeper Perntreou parried Wardrop’s cross after the full-back had cut in from the right.

In the 74th minute Donnelly was again in the right spot forcing the ball home from under the bar after a free kick from Waters had struck the bar..
