Champions LeagueA week after being knocked out of the League Cup by St Johnstone Martyn Waghorn is preparing to play in the Champions League.

The 25-year-old journeyman bagged a hat-trick against Morton on Sunday and is now planning a goal spree against the finest clubs in Europe.

Showing a complete disrespect for the Championship opponents who have budgeted in accordance with their income, Waggers has already counted on picking up a Championship winners medal with a Premiership medal next on his wish list

“In the short term the Champions League is not unrealistic,” the former Wigan, Hull and Leicester ace claimed. “It’s realistic if we get promoted, anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“We’re going to set our standards to get into the Champions League, I think that’s realistic for Rangers, how it’s developed and how it’s run.

“We want to be as high as we can as quick as we can. I want to be a part of a successful team and I’ll do anything I can to bring that here.

“You can see in the cup in the previous week teams were knocking out otherteams. The difference isn’t that much anymore, the gap is getting tighterand tighter.

“I want to be part of a Rangers team that is getting into Europe and winning trophies. We just need to concentrate on getting the job done by making sure we getpromotion.”

Should they avoid going into administration and claim a place in the top flight followed by winning the 2017 Premiership title Sevco will find a number of obstacles in the way of a Champions League with battling through three qualifying rounds as an unseeded team the least of their concerns.

With no sign of audited accounts and an expected going concern warning likely to be printed in red letters UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules will be a major obstacle.

Following the controversial granting of a licence for Rangers (IL) to play in Europe in 2011/12 UEFA have tightened up on a number of licencing issues.

With the asset treansfer of 2012 about to be blown open in court it’s likely that the ownership of Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park will come under close scrutiny.

UEFA insist that the licenced club has ownership of their ground or a leased agreement for at least two season’s before allowing a club to compete in their competition.

Looking back at last week’s League Cup knock out Waggers added: “We just had an off day against St Johnstone and it was there for everyone to see. But we’ve analysed it, learned from it and it will make us better. We will improve.

“The manner of the defeat, but St Johnstone played well and they had a gameplan and scored three very good goals. Sometimes you have to take you hat off and say well done.

Meanwhile Mark Warburton is hoping to complete a deal in the next 48 hours to sign midfield power house John Eustace.

I understand that they have thick gullible knuckledragging followers, but surely they don’t NEED to have players of similar intellect, do they?
What next? A campaign by the Hun and Retard to have the 2nd Division’s top scorer in Roy Hodgsen’s plans for the Euros?
    They will NEVER learn

To get into the champions league you need to win the SPFL and Sevco aint going to do that in fact you might be dead by the end of the season. Never mind you might get Tuped by new owners and be able to start for another new team playing out of Ibrokes in the bottom league in Scotland. Lets see if that still excites you journeyman.

I see you and Sevco are trying for the world record for the amount of penalties won and scored in a season. It’s easy winning when you get so many penalties and opposition players sent off. Lets see how cocky you are in against the big Bhoys ..If you had big problems against St Johnston how do you think you will cope with the stronger teams? reality check needed Waghorn.

Waghorn ‘ s comments show that you don’t have to be at Ibrox for very long to develop a sense of entitlement based on a run of success against lower league teams, some of whom train just twice a week.
If his comments about Champions League participation and being back to where they belong had been made after giving a mid table SPFL team a real going over I would still be laughing my head off.

Instead they are given a going over by the Saints! It’s quite an incredible statement to be given print space by a media working tirelessly to big up everything they possibly can about the club/company/celestial entity that plays out of Ibrox.

One could presume, given the bountiful positive headlines, that this snowstorm of good news means that all is well in Govan?

No financial worries, 6 months working capital in the bank according to the Chairman…….that’s approx £12m, excluding of course the £9m of loan repayments to the 3 Bears and Ashley.

Green’s claim for his legal fees to be paid by the club is due in court this week. As it’s normal practice that directors and officers of the club are covered by liability insurance then his claim is likely to be upheld……….any attempt to ring fence £500 k in the Ibrox coffers will result in some serious head scratching the Ibrox boardroom.

PS. If Ashley thought for a moment that there was £12 m in the Ibrox bank account his people would be all over it in a minute to ring fence his £5m loan.

Champions League……yep, pull the other one Martyn!
