Izaguirre

After the dejection of being sent off against Ajax, Emilio Izaguirre was back in the headlines as Celtic smacked six goals past Dundee.

It was a lucky escape for Paul Hartley’s side as Izaguirre missed a penalty, James Forrest hit the bar, Nadir Ciftci had a goal disallowed while Scott Bain in the Dundee goal turned in a man of the match performance.

As a welcome by product it was the first clean sheet for the Celtic defence since the visit to Partick Thistle in the second league match of the season.

Izaguirre posted notice of his intentions with a great searing run in the 14th minute which ended with a well placed pass to Tom Rogic who hooked home the opener before the Australian turned creator for Leigh Griffiths to put Celtic two in front.

Celtic should have been further ahead before the interval but Izaguirre doubled that advantage with strikes in the 54th and 61st minutes- the first the result of a dribble coming in off the left wing followed by smacking the ball high into the net from close range.

Between those goals Ciftci replaced Griffiths but when Celtic were awarded a penalty in the 64th minute there was only one candidate for the task- unfortunately Filip Sebo sent his effort high into the stand rather than the back of the net.

Ciftci’s luck looked to be out when he turned a loose ball into the net in the 83rd minute only to see his effort disallowed by Steven McLean.

A couple of minutes later the former Dundee United striker turned creator teeing up Scott Brown for number five before he scored his first Celtic goal- latching onto a short pass-back before eyeballing Bain and tucking the ball under the keeper into the centre of the net.

Tonight at 6pm Celtic take on Hamilton Accies in the Development League at New Douglas Park.

Despite occasional lapses, there is never any doubt about Izzy’s commitment. Happy at the result, but more so for him. Haven’t looked forward to a PK so much since Big Sammi’s last goal for us. Bummer he missed it … 🙂
