Victor Wanyama (Southampton)Victor Wanyama has apologised for his sending off against Norwich.

The former Celtic midfielder was red carded with the score at 0-0 with Alex Tettey scoring the only goal of the game with Southampton down to ten men.

Before the match Ronald Koeman had dropped Sadio Mane after he had turned up late for a pre-match meeting with the Dutchman equally unhappy about Wanyama’s second yellow card.

When you know you have already a yellow, and you go for that tackle, in that position on the pitch, that is a bad decision from Wanyama,” Koeman said.

“And it starts with the problem about Sadio. To change the team two hours before the game, because one player is coming late to the last meeting before the game, it is not that professional. It is not what we expect from the players of Southampton.”

Arsenal and Spurs have been linked with a move for Wanyama but this afternoon he issued an apology for his sending off at Norwich.

“I would just like to apologise to the manager, fans and everyone at the club for my red card yesterday,” the midfielder said.

“It was reckless and irresponsible and I should have used my experience to have not let it happen, especially when I was on a yellow card.

“I now just want to focus on getting back on the pitch and helping the team as much as I can.”

Despite last week’s win over Arsenal Southampton have dropped to 13th place just seven points above third bottom Newcastle.
