Kieran Tierney Keiran Tierney has revealed the short cut that he took after being told he’d be sidelined for seven months.

Last season, at home to Ross County on December 27 Tierney was named as a substitute for the first time but the following day at training disaster struck when he broke his leg.

At 17-years-old seven months can seem like a lifetime but three months after his operation Tierney was back in action for the development team and made his first team debut before the end of the season.

There’s obviously stuff that goes through your head but you just have to think positive all the time and that’s what happens, positive things come,” the left-back admitted as he looked back on 2015. “It was a spiral fracture of the fibula and usually if you do that, the ligaments go as well.

At the start they told me they would be trying to get me back for the start of next season, that my season was over. Then I came round from my operation and the surgeon said it wasn’t as bad as he thought and he hoped to have me back in eight weeks.

To hear that news felt incredible and made me feel positive straight away. I was training again after two months, playing again after three.

I played two or three 20s games to start with then made the bench. I made my debut as a sub against Dundee and a couple of weeks later got my first start against St Johnstone. That was amazing considering I’d broken my leg just a few months earlier.”

Seeing one of our own making an impact on the first team is always welcome with a supporters song already being aired for the bhoy from Wishaw.

Tierney is part of the twitter generation and believes that their backing played a big part on his road to recovery.

The fans have been great with me,” he added. “The support on social media is brilliant and I have a lot to thank them for.

A year on from where I was, where I am now is brilliant, playing most weeks for Celtic. If I can keep that up for the next year I’d be very happy.”

Griffiths and young Tierney are the only players in our side to show anything on a regular basis. I’d be tempted to start them and the development side against Stanraer simply to put a boot up the rest of the squad …

I hope the fans do not label this young man as the next superstar.
He is developing well and will continue to improve given time
Let’s remember that when he makes mistakes.
