spflPolice Scotland Dumfries have shown their colleagues in Glasgow how to act efficiently by arresting six supporters at the Queen of the South v Sevco match yesterday.

According to a report on the BBC website: “Six arrests have been made following the Queen of the South and Rangers game at Palmerston Park on Sunday, with police saying more are expected.

Match Commander David McCallum said the majority of the crowd at the match in Dumfries had been well behaved.

However, he said there were a number of incidents of disorder during the game.

They included one incident, which remains under investigation, where visiting supporters refused requests to remove a banner.

Police said an 18-year-old man had been arrested in relation to public order offences committed while a banner was being removed from advertising hoardings by stewards and police in contravention of ground rules.”

At the Sevco v Hibs match on December 28 there were two very audible outbreaks of the anti-catholic hate song The Billy Boys, it’s estimated that at least half of the fans at the match, well over 20,000 were singing the song.

Despite extensive CCTV coverage at Ibrox backed up by BT Sport no one has been arrested or charged with singing at that match.

Two days after the match, having praised the support of fans at the match Sevco produced a statement saying: “At every home and away pre-match operations meeting unacceptable conduct is included on the agenda with the attention of both the police and stewards drawn to the need to deal with this matter robustly.

The club will assist Police Scotland in identifying those responsible for the unacceptable behaviour on Monday.”

Despite giving his views on a variety of topics Mark Warburton has never commented on the singing of anti-catholic songs.
