BARCELONA HOOPSCeltic will have their fixtures in the International Champions Cup confirmed at 3pm Celtic Park time.

The US based pre-season event has expanded into China and Australia last season with some suggestions that the 2016 event could feature matches in Europe with Dublin mooted as a venue for Celtic to play.

Barcelona, Paris St Germain and Manchester United all took part in the American leg last season with Real Madrid and Manchester City playing in front of huge crowds in Australia.

Organisers Relevent Sports will launch the 2016 event later today with claims online that Celtic have been lined up to play against Leicester City, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

The difficulty for Celtic is the games are scheduled alongside Champions League qualifiers with the second round matches played on July 13 and 20 with the third qualifying round on July 26 and August 3.

Staging a game in Dublin or elsewhere in Europe would suit Celtic’s preparations with the hoops entering the qualifiers at the second round stage if they retain the SPFL title.

The domestic season kicks off on August 5/6 but clubs have the option to postpone a match to take part in a friendly. Celtic didn’t use that option last season but played a number of friendlies in Austria, Finland and Germany in 2014.

Last season Celtic stayed at home for their entire pre-season preparation with three matches hosted by St Mirren.

That approach was designed to give the squad the best possible chance of reaching the group stage of the Champions League but the hoops crashed out after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Malmo.
