Mark McGheeMark McGhee has described Sevco’s promotion to the top flight as fantastic and welcomed the club back ‘to where they belong’.

The Scotland assistant manager was speaking 48 hours before his side face Celtic hoping to secure a place in the top six for the post split fixtures.

It seems that Tuesday night’s celebrations at Ibrox have put a spring in McGhee’s step with the continuation myth, despite liquidation, in his mind.

It is fantastic,” McGhee said. “It makes it more difficult for the rest of us to stay in it because it is one more team likely to compete at the top end rather than the bottom. They are back where they belong and I think Scottish football will be the better for it.”

“I expect them to be certainly up there among the European places. Whether they can rise enough to actually take Celtic on… because no doubt that Celtic will also rise to the challenge and you do have Aberdeen and Hearts getting better all the time.

“It won’t be easy for them to come straight back in and win the title, but they will be putting pressure on Celtic that’s for sure.”

For McGhee’s benefit Rangers Football Club were sent into liquidation in June 2012 when HER MAJESTY turned down a CVA put together by Duff & Phelps.

Despite the gymnastics of those afraid of reality Sevco Scotland were granted conditional membership of the SFA, playing their first match at Brechin City while Rangers remained members of the SFA and SPL. Rangers voted in favour of admitting the Sevco club to the SPL in 2012, ten clubs voted against and Kilmarnock abstained.

With loans of approaching £20m, no bank overdraft, no share trading facility, no Nominated Adviser and a convicted criminal as chairman McGhee’s joy is likely to be short lived as administration and liquidation visit the tribute act who have learned no lessons from the demise of Rangers.
