Celtic closed their four match pre-season trip to Slovenia with a low key 0-0 draw with Maribor.

There wasn’t much to get excited by over the 90 minutes with Brendan Rodgers side just three days away from their first competitive match of the season- away to Lincoln Red Imps in the second qualifying round for the Champions League.

Rodgers named a 29 man squad with Mikael Lustig listed for the first time and getting a half hour run out as the Irishman made nine changes to his side. There was one enforced change during the first half when Callum McGregor replaced the injured Stefan Johansen after 29 minutes.

Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele were joined in attack by Ryan Christie with Rodgers spoiled for choice when it comes to attacking options.

Celtic’s main chances came late in the game with Tom Rogic posing the main goal threat but there was no breakthrough as all thoughts turn towards Gibraltar on Tuesday and the first competitive outing of the Rodgers reign.

Speaking about the tour captain Scott Brown told the Celtic website: “Most days, we trained at 10 o’clock for 90 minutes to two hours and then we would come back, have lunch and then train again at 4.30pm for the same amount of time.

In between those times it was up to you if you wanted to have a wee walk into town or chill out in your room, so the gaffer hasn’t put too many restraints on us in that sense, as long as you work 100 per cent and you are there on time.

The gaffer took us out for a meal one night as well which was good. Everything was chop and change every day so it wasn’t the same thing for two days in a row. The gaffer keeps you thinking, whether it’s putting people in different position, playing different formations or different ways of defending against other teams and their way of playing us.

He has been spot on with everything he has been doing. He knows what he wants and that’s the best way to be. If you are disorganised and don’t know what you are doing from day-to-day, that’s when things can build up and get on top of you. But he has got everything spot on.”

CELTIC; Gordon; Janko (Lustig 63), Ambrose (O’Connell 63), Sviatchenko (Ajer 63), Tierney (Izaguirre 63); Brown (Armstrong 63), Bitton (Rogic 63), Johansen (McGregor 29); Griffiths (Ciftci 63), Dembele (Roberts 63), Christie (Forrest 63).
