Darnell Fisher has signed a three year contract with Rotherham United.

Allan Stubbs signed Scott Allan on loan from Celtic last week and was delighted to add Fisher to his squad for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old moved to Glasgow in 2011 from Reading based Eldon Celtic after being overlooked by local clubs.

His aggression and willingness to graft made him a stand out in midfield before earning his top team breakthrough as a right-back, making his debut in a tasty match away to Hibs in October 2013.

With Mikael Lustig around his opportunities were limited but he rarely looked out of place when put into the first team.

After making 28 appearances last season on loan at St Johnstone he did enough to impress Alan Stubbs into offering him a three year contract to play in the English second tier.

The former Hibs boss told the Rotherham website: “He is very athletic, he is a modern-day full-back. He is very quick and will get up the pitch.

He has played at Celtic and it is a huge club. We have given him an opportunity to come here and fight for a place and push Kells (Stephen Kelly). He has played left-back, he’s normally a right-back.”

Fisher’s departure is the latest to the squad that Brendan Rodgers inherited from Ronny Deila, joining Charlie Mulgrew, Anthony Stokes, Stefan Scepovic, Carlton Cole and Colin Kazim Richards who have already left with Allan and Michael Duffy from the first team squad moved out on loan.
