There was a predictable silence from BBC Scotland to the UEFA letter explaining that Sevco are a new club unrelated to the Rangers club that was wrongly given a UEFA licence in 2011.
Normally keen followers of social media trends the state funded broadcaster body swerved the issue which exploded across twitter and facebook yesterday.
The BBC have been at the forefront of the survival myth as they avoid the L word to disuss financial meltdown, demotion and relegation ignoring the reality of liquidation and how the red carpet was laid out to speed the new club into the Scottish Football League.
‘McGinn in Scotland squad to face Malta’ leads the way on the BBC Scottish football homepage before predictable stories relating to an international match between two lightweights and the Monday morning gossip where the BBC pick up stories from elsewhere giving them credibility.
In other aspects of the story the BBC have been quick to push the survival myth.
In January 2015 in a run of the mill interview about nothing in particular the BBC carried the following quotes without questioning.
Neil Doncaster told the BBC: “Any commercial partner we work with wants as much stability in the game as possible. The more stability we can have at all 42 member clubs, the better.
“In terms of the question about old club, new club, that was settled very much by the Lord Nimmo Smith commission that was put together by the SPL to look at EBT payments at that time.
“The decision, very clearly from the commission, was that the club is the same, the club continues, albeit it is owned by a new company, but the club is the same.”
So the official take from the SPFL is that Rangers Football Club continues, it’s the same club? “Yes, it’s the same club, absolutely.”
Fortunately twitter carries more independence than the state broadcaster with news of the UEFA letter shared far and wide, below is a sample of the comments.

@gjust67 @CQN @STVGrant The only way UEFA letter will get coverage is if there’s a wriggle room angle to say ‘ah but it’s still same RFC’
