Chris Sutton has described Celtic qualifying for the group stage Champions League as a miracle.

There wasn’t much evidence of miracles in the Nou Camp with much of the debate surrounding the level of embarrassment that the hoops suffered.

Under Ronny Deila Celtic never suffered a defeat of that magnitude- or reached the group phase of the Champions League.

Sutton suffered through two Europa League campaigns and turned to twitter to put some perspective on last night’s defeat.

Highlighting the impact that Rodgers has had on his old club Sutton recently explained: “Rodgers did most of his work well in advance of the final day. He would have tried to bring in one more but it’s not a disaster that he didn’t.

People will talk about strengthening for the Champions League but you can’t tell me bringing in a panic £5million midfielder at five minutes to midnight would make much difference. Not when Celtic are going up against £50m midfielders at Barcelona and Manchester City.

The key thing for me is Celtic are in a far stronger position in terms of their squad than they were at the start of the window.

There is no doubt Rodgers has significantly improved the squad. The players he’s brought in are better than the ones they have replaced.

Kolo Toure is a massive step up in the centre-half position. I can’t remember the last player to have made such a successful impact as Scott Sinclair. He’s been a superb signing so far.

I still think Moussa Dembele is raw but there is a very good player there and he has taken so much pressure off Leigh Griffiths.”
