Stuart Armstrong believes that he can become Brendan Rodgers’ Number 10.
The midfielder has had an up and down start to the season under the new Celtic boss which has mirrored his fortunes under Ronny Deila.
Playing on the left of a 4-2-3-1 system Armstrong made a strong impression as Deila’s side swept to the title in 2014 but last season turned out to be one long disappointment for Armstrong.
Injuries played their part but with his physique he seemed ill suited to the left sided attacking role with his form suffering.
Armstrong caught the eye at Tannadice as a box-to-box midfielder but after talks with Rodgers he is hoping to get a chance in a more advanced role.
“We’ve had a chat about different things and about that (the Number 10) position,” he revealed.
“I’m very happy with that because that was a frustration for me last season, rotating in different positions and playing on the left.
“Playing as a No10 is where I know I can fulfil my potential. I’ve been moved around for years, but I think I was at my best at Dundee United when I was a real No10 and working off the striker.
“I was scoring goals and creating them and now I’m getting the chance to do that again. Now the manager knows that’s my position, I can work on trying to get into the team.
“I’ve been in and out so far this season, so to come on against Rangers and play well and make an impact, was good.
“It was a huge game for us and for them. After the Scottish Cup game last season, we wanted to make amends.
“From start to finish we were excellent and to get my first taste of that game was special. To add a goal was really nice.”
Armstrong will be competing with Tom Rogic for a starting place against Inverness Caley Thistle today after both men started on the bench against Barcelona.
