Brendan Rodgers has told Liam Henderson that he has everything the hoops boss is looking for in a player.
Henderson replaced Scott Brown after 73 minutes of the BetFred Cup win over Motherwell last month in a match that finished with six Academy players in the Celtic side.
The outcome of the tie was done and dusted by the time Henderson came on but in 17 minutes he made a big impression on his new gaffer.
For a good part of Celtic’s pre-season preparations it looked likely that Henderson would be sent out on loan again after last season’s experience at Hibs.
Rodgers has plenty of options in midfield but the 20-year-old is delighted to have been told that his future lies at Celtic Park.
Henderson explained: “I came on against Motherwell and he took me into a meeting the next day and said, ‘You’ve got everything I look for in a player, I just want you to keep your head down, keep working hard and work on things you need to improve on’.
“I don’t think there’s a better place for me to do that than Celtic.”
Henderson added: “I’ve had a good preseason and the gaffer’s been brilliant with me. I’m looking to learn from him all the time.
“He’s worked with top class players and the stuff he tells me is second to none. He’s said where I need to improve and I totally agree.
“I’m always going to have a soft spot for Hibs and it’s always going to have a place in my heart. I loved my time there but I’m at Celtic and the manager doesn’t want me to go. I’m there to work my socks off.”
