Dave King has warmed Mark Warburton that he expects significant returns from his transfer warchest.

This afternoon there were scenes of celebration at Ibrox as a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock took Warbo’s side into second place.

The Ibrox boss has been a troubled figure in recent weeks making regular attacks on media and the expectations placed on his side.

Despite his moans Warbo has a budget significantly superior to St Johnstone, Aberdeen and Hearts which King was quick to highlight in the club accounts which were published yesterday.

The South African based criminal warned: “Of course the main aim is to finish at the top of the SPFL Premiership while also targeting success in the domestic cup competitions and the Board has provided a playing budget, vastly superior to all but one other club, which should see significant returns. We are all well aware that the ultimate goal is to return Rangers to the very top as quickly as possible.”

Earlier in the report King explained: “That’s why the Directors have supported the management team each time the transfer windows open and currently Rangers has 11 new players despite my previous statements that we only anticipated 5 to 7 additions.

Understandably, it can take time for the new additions to mould into a team and react to the elevated challenge of playing in the Premiership. This Club cannot stand still or lose ground and the Board will continue to back the manager and his team. Plans are being put in place to continue the recruitment process to meet the greater challenges that lie ahead.”

With no return for the £50,000/week wages invested in Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter Warbo will be expected to spend his January war-chest very carefully.

The annual report revealed that the club had a funding shortfall of £4m which it was confident of funding with £10m of loans scheduled to be repaid in December 2017.

Mr King hasn’t been in Scotland since watching the 1-1 draw with Hamilton Accies on the opening day of the season.
