Rodgers looks ahead to January

|

Brendan Rodgers is already looking forward to January’s winter break.

The Irishman started pre-season work in June before taking his squad to Slovenia to prepare for the Champions League qualifiers.

It’s been non-stop for Rodgers and his players as they battle in the SPFL, BetFred Cup and Champions League.

In England January can be a killer month after the packed festive programme with Rodgers intending to take full advantage of his first winter break.

The players will need it and enjoy it,” the Celtic boss stated. “It’s brilliant to have a block of time in January when we can recover, press the reset button and be ready to fly again for the second half of the season.

I’ll probably take the players away. You need that up here. It’s like 50 shades of grey – it’s either grey or dark grey or light grey or even darker grey.

To be fair, we’ve had a great run of weather since I’ve been here. It hasn’t even been cold. Then on Tuesday it all kicked off and started to get bad. Come January, we’ll be ready for some sun.”

In 2014 and 2015 Celtic cancelled January league matches to go to Turkey and Gran Canaria for a week of warm weather training and play two matches.

After the December 31 match at Ibrox Celtic will have two blank weekends before kicking off their Scottish Cup campaign on January 21.
