Mark Warburton is setting up a collision course with the Sevco board over Joseph Anthony Barton.

The big mouthed midfielder is due back from suspension tomorrow but there are no signs of peace moves coming from the former city trader.

Instead Warbo is singing the praises of Andy Halliday and claiming that the former Bradford City midfielder is a model professional.

When Barton signed it was Davie Weir that handled the media duties with Warbo taking a respectful four week vow of silence after watching his side hand the Scottish Cup over to Hibs.

There seems little doubt that the former Burnley ace was signed to shift season tickets but with the new term underway Warbo has no time for Barton who is draining the best part of £30,000 a week out of the Metro Bank account.

Halliday was ditched from the team to make way for Barton but with the club suspension almost over it’s clear that Warbo won’t be repeating that mistake.

Explaining the dropping of Halliday Warbs said: “With Andy we made what we thought was the right decision, in hindsight, it wasn’t the right decision. There’s no doubt that when Andy pulls on a shirt there is no more passionate player for Rangers.

There’s no player more willing to do well for the club. What you see with Andy is totally genuine.

He deserved to get the armband against Queen of the South. Lee Wallace was away and Kenny Miller wasn’t starting. I think it showed in his display that night how much it meant to him.

He also grabbed the ball for our penalty against Aberdeen last week. That’s genuine. If you’re going to hide, you don’t grab the ball in that situation.

It’s not a loose statement with Andy, he’s a genuinely passionate footballer who loves playing for Rangers.

He wants to do well individually and wants the team to do well also. He’s a pleasure to have in the side and is a role model to the other players here.”

Next Monday is decision day for Sevco with Barton due to return with the midfielder carefully avoiding saying anything that could compromise his lucrative contract.
