Whinging Mark Warburton has made a furious attack on the winter break.

As part of the SPFL Sevco discussed and voted for the break which will involve TWO weekends without football.

Last season, Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, made a point about moaning with artificial pitches and the fixture schedule among his favourite whinges.

In his beloved England managers and players are screaming out for a winter break but Warbo believes that the entire fixture list should centre around the Scottish Cup Final and the bizarre prospect of Lee Wallace and Barrie Mackay playing a World Cup qualifier against England!

In yesterday’s rant the former city trader said: “The Scottish Cup final is on May 28, the first Europa League game is on June 28 and in between there is a small fixture between Scotland and England on June 11.

“What do you do? I’m looking at our players – Lee Wallace, Barrie McKay and the likes and wondering what kind of break they might be given.

“Even if we don’t make the cup final we still finish a week earlier, on May 21, and it’s only five weeks before the Europa League qualifiers.

“You’d usually come back on June 18-19 to travel away on June 29 for a 10-12 day training camp, then return to build up your fixtures for a league season start around August 7. Potentially, we’re starting a full six weeks earlier.

“If the team is in the cup final and you have to give them a ‘golden window’ of three weeks’ break then we would have a week’s training before the European game.

“If not and we finish on the May 21, by the time you give them some time off you’re looking at two weeks before the European tie. Does that give Scottish clubs the best opportunities to progress? I’m not sure it does.

“The European fixtures are obviously important for Scottish football and the clubs individually, of course.

“It is very important for Rangers financially. It generates income for the club and getting season tickets sold and the punters enjoying coming to Ibrox is also vital.”

In terms of timing Arsenal were without three German World Cup winners for the start of the 2014/15 season.

As a former city trader Warbo should be alarmed that a four year old club that has never kicked a ball in any UEFA competition is pinning it’s financial master-plan on an unseeded team reaching at least the group phase of the Europa League.

Of the squad that Warbo takes to Ross County tomorrow only Lee Wallace has played in Europe before with the lessons from Malmo and Maribor starting to fade.

Perhaps of Warbo had signed some younger players with potential and a re-sale value, like every club in Scotland does, he wouldn’t be dependent on the Europa League dream.

For the fee paid to Preston for Joe Garner the Londoner could have signed Moussa Dembele to work with the Murray Park Marvels and stuck a £1m signing on fee into the deal.

Garner, who is 28-years-old has scored three times this season, Dembele who is 20-years-old has scored 17 goals for Celtic. More than five times the goals for less than one third of the fee.

Last season Warbo refused to answer questions when asked about speculation linking him to the Fulham manager’s job.
