Sevco have admitted defeat in their bid to sack Joey Barton by inviting the midfielder back to Murray Park for training.

Following six weeks suspended the former Burnley ace will be back at his place of work although it’s unlikely that he’ll feature in Mark Warburton’s first team plans.

Barton was ordered away from Murray Park in the aftermath of the 5-1 defeat from Celtic amid reports of a bust up with Andy Halliday and Warbo.

Rather than quietly let the incident blow over Sevco slapped Barton with a three week suspension which allowed the Scouser time off to promote his new book across the UK.

Last week Barton was called to a summit at Ibrox but despite almost an hour of talks no breakthrough was found with the player not prepared to compromise his two year contract.

This afternoon Sevco announced: “JOEY BARTON has been told he will return to full-time training following the conclusion of a disciplinary procedure.

The Auchenhowie management team will inform the player of appropriate training arrangements to which he must adhere for as long as he remains a Rangers player. Neither the Club nor the player will comment further.”

Barton missed Sevco’s pre-season training trip to the United States due to a banning order and had his fitness questioned during his early season performances.

Following almost two months away from training it seems that Sevco are hoping to get him fit enough for a January move- providing a club can be found to match his £25,000/week wages.
