Mark Warburton has launched a spirited defence of his summer transfer flops.
With five wins from 12 matches in the top flight the transfer policy of the former city trader has come under scrutiny.
Dave King authorised the signing of 11 players during the summer to back up #goingfor55 but with Sevco sitting in third place he’s had little return for his money.
Clint Hill, at the age of 38, has replaced Danny Wilson in defence but other than that Warbo has stuck to the squad that won promotion last season.
It’s widely expected that finishing second is the absolute minimum expectation this season with Warbo forced onto the back foot to defend his English based signing policy.
“You can’t get every one right,” he claimed using a favoured defence of struggling manager. “You make a mistake and hope you learn from it.
“Over the last 18 months, when 22 players have come in, there aren’t a lot of failures in that number, touch wood.
“It’s still too early for Matt Crooks and Joe Dodoo. They have talent and we have no doubt about them at all.
“Matt Gilks has done great. He was signed to provide a challenge and has shown his quality. Lee Hodson has done great and Clint Hill is first choice at the moment.
“I was delighted with Niko and where he was when he unfortunately got the injury.
“Joe Garner is 10 games in. I use the example of Andre Gray, who is probably worth £30million now. He scored two goals in 10 for Burnley and six in 20, so Joe’s ahead of him.”
Garner has scored three goals in 10 games following his £1.8m transfer from Preston.
If Sevco fail to beat Dundee tomorrow they are likely to drop down to fifth place in the table ahead of Friday’s AGM with the club accounts again carrying a going concern warning.
