Kris Commonsbelieves that Brendan Rodgers has got him in shape to hit the ground running.

Yesterday the midfielder signed a 28 day loan to join Hibs and it’s doubtful that he’ll be seen again in a Celtic shirt.

This season he hasn’t made a single appearance and was excluded from Rodgers’ Champions League squad.

Even though he is dropping down a division match fitness is likely to be an issue although Commons’ touch, passing and shooting is likely to be as sharp as ever.

At Cappielow tonight Hibs fans will get their first glimpse of the new signing with the 33-year-old confident that he is ready to hit the ground running.

I haven’t played competitive football since April so it’s almost nine months now,” he explained to The Sun.

I had a spell out after an epidural operation in my back in the last week in May but since the first week in July I’ve been fit and healthy and itching to play.

Since Brendan has come in the training has been really sharp so I’m feeling good.

Who knows what’s going to happen in the future but short-term this is ideal for Hibs and for me.”

Fourth placed Morton will make life difficult for Hibs who could kick the game off in second place of Dundee United win away to Raith Rovers in a 3pm kick off.

Commons will be the centre of attention at 5.15pm when the BBC Alba cameras roll into Greenock to screen Commons debut. On his Celtic debut he scored after six minutes in a League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen.
