Leigh Griffiths hopes that he has done enough to be handed a starting spot against Sevco on Saturday.

The former Hibs striker has been given a chance to lead the line this month and responded with four goals in six matches.

With Celtic managing three consecutive single goal wins during December Griffiths’ contribution has been essential.

Moussa Dembele has scored four times in two matches against Mark Warburton’s iron curtain defence but the Frenchman’s form has shaded despite finding the net at Hamilton on Saturday.

Choosing between Dembele or Griffiths is the sort of ‘problem’ all managers love to make with Griffiths hoping that his recent form gets him a starting slot.

I just want to play my part,” he told the Evening Times. “Hopefully I can be involved. It has been a bit stop start with one thing and another but we’ll just have to wait and see what the manager goes with. I am hungry.

I have not lost any self-belief. I always fancy myself to score if I am playing. It would be nice to round off this year by getting a goal at Ibrox but I think we all know that the main thing is that we get all three points. It would be a great way to finish the year and that is what we are looking to do.”

Griffiths added: “It has been a hard month because there have been so many games but it has been good, I think we feel as if we have worked hard and we are seeing the reward for that.

“It will be nice to get a breather. In some ways I would be happy to keep on going and keep playing now that I am involved and playing in games but it is good for the team to get a bit of down time and let everyone just relax a wee bit.

“There is one big push to go so hopefully we can come out of this year in a good frame of mind before getting ready to go again at the end of January.”

Rodgers other dilemma is who should replace Tom Rogic with the Australian ruled out due to injury.

Ryan Christie was used in the ‘Rogic’ position last night but is unlikely to start at Ibrox.

Patrick Roberts through the centre or Stuart Armstrong pushed up with Nir Bitton or Callum McGregor partnering Scott Brown seem the most likely options for the Celtic boss to consider.
