On loan keeper Colin McCabe has been named in the SPFL team of the week- alongside former Celts Marcus Fraser and Rocco Quinn- while Stewart Armstrong and Leigh Griffith make it from the current side.

McCabe has had how work cut out this season with Stenhousemuir stuck at the bottom of League One without a single home win but Saturday’s 5-0 win away to Airdrie United will have helped morale.

The omens didn’t look good when they travelled to in form Airdrie United where Mark Wilson was celebrating his manager of the month award.

It seemed a certain home win but as the SPFL website noted: “Goals change games. Stenhousemuir might have scored five without reply at promotion-chasing Airdrie, but it might not have been that way for the league’s bottom club if they had conceded the opening goal, which they would have done when David Marsh almost inadvertently headed into his own net. McCabe was on hand to pull off a terrific one-handed stop, and he repeated the trick late in the match to deny the hosts a consolation.

It wasn’t such good news last night for Stenny as they lost 4-0 at home to league leaders Livingston leaving Brown Ferguson’s side four points adrift of East Fife at the bottom of League One.

Successive home matches against Albion Rovers and East Fife gives them the chance to get back among the pack.

McCabe has made 22 first team appearances this season with the 19-year-old Dubliner also spending part of last season on loan at Stenhousemuir.
