BBC Chelsea show their colours

Radio Scotland were up to their usual tricks over lunchtime as they ‘debated’ the merits of Craig Gordon going to Chelsea as part of their lunchtime show.

With resources that commercial broadcasters couldn’t hope to compete with the state broadcaster decided to call on the insight of two ‘experts’ with very similar views.

First up was man of many clubs Pat Nevin. The former Celtic fan now kids himself on that he is a Hibs supporter while picking up as much money as possible from Chelsea on their various media platforms.

Nevin was chief executive of Motherwell when they were placed in administration.

Surprise surprise Nevin was urging Gordon to join Chelsea and be at a club likely to go far in the Champions League, but maybe not this season.

Backing up Nevin’s view was Stevie Thompson who has found the BBC welcoming his bland views on any subject since retiring from playing for St Mirren.

Thompson’s most high profile spell in football was during a four year stint at Ibrox. Rather than getting paid in the traditional manner Thommo picked up a £485,000 ‘tax free’ EBT payment for his three years at Ibrox- the equivalent of more than £3,000/week to top up the contract registered with the SFA and SPL.

Surprise Surprise Thommo also thinks that Gordon should jump at the chance of joining Chelsea.

With their vast resources was it beyond the reach of the BBC to find someone stating the case for remaining at Celtic- or is the thought of an unbeaten treble just too hurtful for BBC Scotland to contemplate?
