Warbo on phantom Barrie bid

Mark Warburton has again been rattling on about not being forced to sell Barrie McKay despite no sign of any club being remotely interested in the 22-year-old starlet.

Six days after the Daily Record’s ‘smoking gun’ story about a £6m bid from RB Leipzig no genuine offers have been received for McKay.

Rather than howling at the moon about turning down offers perhaps Warbo could explain how contract negotiations for the £4,000/week winger are progressing.

Next summer McKay will be able to walk away for nothing without even a development fee required.

Covering the comments of the former city trader the Daily Record reports: “We won’t be forced [into selling] at all.

“The club is building. The board’s intention is to take the club back to where it needs to be, so the target has to be to hold on to our best players but every club in the game will have a price for their players.

“Can you put a price on someone like Barrie McKay? Of course you can. I won’t tell you what it is but of course you can. You could put a value on Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”

In eight transfer windows since formation Sevco have only managed to sell Lewis MacLeod to Brentford, where Warbo was manager for a short spell.

With a going concern warning in the club accounts and substantial legal costs expected in March Warbo won’t be spending any of Dave King’s transfer war-chest this month.

Speculating on interest in a player may be a useful distraction tactic to keep season ticket holders amused but with a squad held together by a 37-year-old and a 38-year-old the true measure of Warbo’s coaching ability is about to be put to the test.
