Frank McAvennie has told West Ham to forget about Moussa Dembele because the Celtic striker is on his way to Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Speculation that a bid was on it’s way for the striker intensified when a not so mystic article on the official West Ham website mentioned a £20m bid for someone in Scotland.
It didn’t take too much detective work to identify who that might be although West Ham wouldn’t go public with their interest.
A fee of £20m is well below Celtic’s valuation of the former Fulham striker with both the player and the club having very clear objectives which involves the Champions League.
Dembele could have joined any one of a number of struggling Premier League clubs during the summer but chose Celtic to get the opportunity to play at the very highest level.
Looking at the situation former West Ham favourite McAvennie told The Sun: “Moussa is a great prospect, and Celtic can afford to hold out for more than £20million for him.
“He’s 20 and he’s already got everything. I truly believe he will play for Real Madrid or Barcelona one day — he will be a huge star.
“For a top striker in modern football these days, you can easily demand £30m.
“Dembele is a quality player now and is only going to get better. He is destined to be a world-class star.
“All the top English clubs are looking at him. If he keeps progressing at this rate, the Spanish sides will also be interested.
“I saw the stuff on the West Ham website, and you knew straight away it was Dembele they were talking about. Nobody else in Scotland is worth that.”
In July Celtic paid Fulham a £500,000 development fee for the cross border transfer of Dembele.
