Celtic have been linked with a move for Filip Benkovic in a carbon copy of the transfer of Jozo Simunovic.
According to a report in The Sun the 19-year-old defender has been closely watched by Celtic since he replaced Simunovic in the Dinamo Zagreb defence.
Benkovic has only made 31 first team appearances but five of them came in this season’s Champions League.
Although he already has a contract until 2020 Dinamo are reported to be negotiating a new deal after becoming aware of interest in the young defender.
Benkovic certainly fits the profile of Celtic’s recent signing policy with Champions League experience at the age of 19 an unexpected bonus.
The negotiations that took Simunovic to Celtic seemed very laboured with the Croatian side looking to insert clauses for every eventuality in the deal.
If anything that should assist Celtic to put together a new offer although the arrival of Benkovic would almost certainly lead to speculation that either Simunovic or Erk Sviatchenko are on their way out.
