Brendan Rodgers wants 2017 to be even better than 2016 for Celtic fans.

The Irishman arrived at Celtic in May and has barely paused for breath as he reshapes the club.

New heroes have been discovered in Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair but the most impressive work has been in reviving the players he inherited from Ronny Deila.

Captain Scott Brown is the prime example but Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Stuart Armstrong are barely recognisable from last season with Rodgers playing the 4-2-3-1 system perfectly with Forest and Sinclair tearing down the flanks.

Looking forward to 2017 Rodgers told The Sun: “It’s been a really special six months being manager at Celtic, but now I’m really looking to the coming months of 2017 and focusing on improving the overall team again, and the club. It’s just about being the best we can be.

We have already begun our journey together but there is lots for us to do and to achieve and you only do that by working so, while it’s nice that the team is getting credit at the moment, it can very quickly change and you have to be wary of that.

The minute you stop working, it all changes so it’s important we continue with that and I have no doubt it will and we will look forward to, hopefully, a healthy and successful 2017.”

In the first half of the season Rodgers steered Celtic to 58 points out of 60 in the SPFL with the only flaw being a 2-2 draw away to Inverness Caley Thistle.

In Europe he eliminated three teams to reach the group phase of the Champions League where Celtic lost three and drew three including both matches against Manchester City.

At Hampden in November he delivered the Betfred Cup despite the semi and the final falling on the weekends following Champions League ties.
