Chris Sutton thinks that Celtic could finish the season 40 points clear of Sevco.
Halfway through the season Celtic are 19 points clear of Mark Warburton’s side and going from strength to strength.
As Celtic spend millions in the transfer window Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, is looking for La Liga rejects to bolster his squad while his second choice goalkeeper looks to escape to Wigan.
It seems certain that the gap between the two clubs will increase in the new year with Sutton convinced that his old club can create a record breaking margin on route to the title.
“I have to say that despite a lot of talk about it just now I don’t believe 10 in a row is a foregone conclusion,” he explained in the Daily Record. “Rangers might find Dave King is actually true to his word and starts investing in their team and eventually start challenging.
“Rangers thought they would push Celtic at the start of the season but they’ve been blown away. Celtic could win the league by 40 points – that’s the reality and it would be humiliation.
“Celtic have a manager who is seemingly in control of his transfer policy – and I’m not saying Mark Warburton isn’t – and is getting financial backing like Martin O’Neill did at Parkhead.
“On the other side of the city they’re looking at a manager who wants to bring players in and has been promised an abundance of money to spend and hasn’t seen much.
“That is why there is talk of 10 in a row because Celtic are sitting pretty but we saw Rangers pushing them in a one-off game last season and will be striving for that consistency. It will be down to whether Dave King keeps his word.”
The one off game that Sutton refers to was the Scottish Cup semi-final.
As things stand losing on a penalty shoot out looks like being one of the greatest defeats in Celtic’s history- at least on a par with Inverness Caley Thistle’s 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat over John Barnes’ side in 2000.
