Blackburn Rovers will appeal against the decision of the FA to refuse Efe Ambrose a work permit.

According to a report in The Sun Ambrose has had his application for a work permit rejected because he hasn’t played in sufficient number of international matches for Nigeria.

Having been dropped out of the Celtic first team squad the 28-year-old has also been left out of Nigerian squad despite previously playing in the 2014 World Cup Finals.

Celtic signed Ambrose from Israeli side Ashdod in 2012 with his work permit granted by the SFA on account of his international experience.

Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila picked the defender on a regular basis but once Brendan Rodgers obtained other defensive options Ambrose fell out of contention.

The defender is out of contract in June with Celtic agreeing to pay a portion of his wages to get the Blackburn deal through.

Now the Championship side will make an appeal against the decision to the FA, if the appeal is unsuccessful Ambrose will see out the remainder of his contract at Celtic.
