Humour was overflowing on twitter today as love-struck Celtic fans celebrated the fifth anniversary of Rangers going into administration.

Instantly the hopes about Craig Whyte were realised, the billionaire from Motherwell put the club into administration and life would never quite be the same again.

Dozens of characters have graced the marble stairway of dignity as the consequences of decades of financial doping came home to roost.

Five years later the club that was placed in administration looks to have been in a healthier place than the current debt ridden tribute act.

Two constants throughout the last five years have been the upbeat media portrayal of the club, led by BBC Scotland, and the delusions of the gullible support.

No matter what horrors have been staring the clubs in the face a bizarre optimism has always emerged.

Putting things in perspective four years and two months after Fergus McCann saved Celtic Wim Jansen’s side were champions of Scotland. Five years after going into administration the tribute act are 27 points behind Celtic, managerless with just the embarrassment of winning the 2016 Petrofac Cup to show for their journey.
