One of the least successful managers in the history of Scottish football has accused Craig Gordon of being economical with the truth.

During the 2013/14 season the former Sunderland keeper trained at Murray Park as part of his rehab working under Scotland coach Jim Stewart.

Despite impressing and showing that he had got over the injuries that had threatened his career there was no offer on the table from Sevco.

With Cammy Bell in outstanding form no one at Ibrox bothered when Gordon joined Celtic in the summer of 2014.

As Gordon’s career went from strength to strength McCoist began to feel the pressure of not offering Gordon a contract- something that the former Question of Sport skipper strongly denies.

Speaking to Bein Sport McCoist said: “He came into Murray Park at our place and did a lot of his rehab.

We obviously tried to offer him something which, understandably maybe, he decided against and went to Celtic and good luck to him and he’s never looked back.

He’s a had a tough time with injuries and had a really, really serious injury.

He just looks comfortable, looks happy and I think the Chelsea interest would certainly have given his morale and his bank balance a boost.

At his age and at the amount of time he’s been out injured he clearly wants to play and he’s done well at Celtic.”

McCoist certainly knows a thing or two about bank balances having milked Sevco for over three seasons but walking away at the final stage of the journey. Gordon has denied ever being offered a contract from McCoist.

As well as a salary of around £800,000 a year and generous expenses McCoist was able to buy 1,092,988 shares at one penny each when the new club was launched by Charles Green in August 2012, four months later fans were able to invest at 70p per share.
