Hard up Sevco are trying to flop Billy Gilmour now rather than accept a fee of £150,000 when the wonder kid signs elsewhere at 16.

Gilmour has already been compared to Jamie Ness with reports that Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are all willing to sign the 15-year-old.

Scottish clubs can’t get a player onto a professional contract until they are 16 with regulations in place to compensate clubs dependant on how many years they have been working with the player if he decides to move elsewhere.

Admitting that they are trying to flog Gilmour before his birthday in June Stewart Robertson told The Sun: “We have a position agreed if Billy was to go. It would be negligent of us not to have done that.

We need to protect our position and do the sensible thing, because if he goes in the summer without a deal being agreed then he leaves for a compensation amount. That would be a helluva lot less than if we had a fee agreed beforehand.”

The only transfer fee that Sevco have ever picked up was when Lewis MacLeod was sold to Brentford in 2015 for a down payment of £250,000.

Chelsea are strong favourites to sign Gilmour and know that they can save a lot of money by sitting on a deal until the players 16th birthday.
