John Brown has made an astonishing attack on the professionalism of the Motherwell first team squad.

On Saturday the Steelmen drew with Sevco at Ibrox to burst the balloon of Brother Pedro just two games into the new regime.

The Ibrox side had won the four previous matches between the clubs this season with Brown calling into question the attitude of the Motherwell players.

One of the usual cliches in the Scottish game is how teams raise their game against Rangers (IL) and Celtic but on this occasion the Ibrox Ambassador took his feelings a stage further.

Speaking to Radio Clyde Brown said: “It’s a Motherwell team that shipped seven goals against Aberdeen, five against Dundee, four against Ross County this season.

They don’t play to that level, they raise their game, you’d think they are in the top three or four so you’ve got to ask questions about the Motherwell squad. You raise your game for the Rangers games.

I’ve just got a history of playing for Dundee, playing for Rangers, every game is a cup final, that’s what the manager will notice from the weekend. Everybody is desperate to raise their game by 25-30 %.

They’ve did very well against Rangers this season then you look at the rest of the results that they’ve had.

Now they have a new manager in, but the other games this season, I think that the first game this season we scored in the last minute to win the game. The cup game we get through that but the other game that the two players were sent off at Motherwell, it was nip and tuck, Motherwell were decent that day, I was at the game.

So I’ve got to question the efforts that their players put in all the other games, the run of the mill games but they seem to raise it for Rangers. I’d definitely question that.”

While Brown questions the efforts of the Motherwell players he might also spend some time thinking how the best squad in Scotland have dropped points to every club in the Premiership except Partick Thistle.

With the second highest budget in the country Sevco have drawn three times with Ross County and lost to Dundee and Inverness Caley Thistle. If Brown can work that out perhaps his club would be able to sustain a challenge with Aberdeen for second place.
