Celtic are reportedly close to signing Dominic Solanke.

According to a report in the Daily Record the Chelsea striker is in the thoughts of Brendan Rodgers and is out of contract net month.

While English clubs would have to pay a full development fee believed to be in the region of £8m Celtic can do a Dembele and sign him up on a cross border deal for just £400,000.

Like Dembele, Solanke will be 19 when his contract expires but has effectively been frozen out of the game because he hasn’t signed a new Chelsea contract.

Last season at the age of 18 he scored a respectable seven goals in 25 appearances on loan at Vitesse Arnham in the Dutch League.

With Chelsea having over 30 players out on loan Solanke could have expected to be out on loan again this season but without signing a contract he has been left on the sidelines.

Solanke has played for the England u-21 side and in 2014 he scored two late goals in Chelsea’s epic FA Youth Cup Final win over a Fulham side that included Dembele and Patrick Roberts.
