Durham in self pity mode

With no one really interested in his opinions Adrian Durham has put together another self pitying rant on the talkSPORT website.

Durham claims that he is the victim of ill-informed former players wanting some reflected glory by having a go at his opinions.

The opposite is far closer to the truth with Chris Sutton responding to online goading from the attention seeking DJ who’s opinions are of little interest until put in his place by people who have kicked a ball and have the intellect to articulate their opinions.

Durham’s knowledge of Scottish football can be summarised in one incredible love letter about Mark Warburton.

After soaking up the toxic atmosphere of Hampden last April Durham told Daily Mail readers that the former city trader was salvaging Scottish football on his way to becoming manager of the England national team.

It’s unclear if the so called Peterborough fan has been to any Scottish games this season but Warbo was last seen using his magic hat to save Nottingham Forest from League One.

Feeling sorry for himself, someone has to, Durham put together an article on former players who are dependent on him to remain relevant.

He claimed: “Chris Sutton was the perfect example: he chose to be abusive and personal towards me to keep Celtic fans happy on Twitter, rather than do some research to form an educated opinion. He works regularly with people who have known me for years, and who I consider to be friends. Why not ask them? Lazy journalism! Fake news from Sutton in fact!

But the main reason for writing this is to say that while there are a number of ex-pros who seem to be irrationally angry that I have this job I’ve got, there are many, many more who know how much care I take with the job, how much sport I watch, how careful I am with my wording (I’ve never once said Wenger should be sacked, for example), and who take time to appreciate the job I do.

Some want to get to know me, some have become pals, others message regularly about football, a couple have become very close friends. A lot of them want to know more about the media industry and how best they can carve out a career in this business. I am always happy to help (I even gave Chris Sutton his first chance on national radio believe it or not, but like Gary Stevens, my generosity is forgotten if there’s a chance of a bit of ego-massaging on Twitter).

Durham football knowledge can be summed up in two words- Mark Warburton. Not even the magic hat could find an escape from last season’s multiple fail.
